Preston McAfee, Former Chief Economist with Microsoft, becomes Senior Consultant to Charles River Associates (CRA) Antitrust & Competition Economics Practice

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 24, 2018-- Charles River Associates (NASDAQ: CRAI), a worldwide leader in providing economic, financial, and management consulting services, today announced that R. Preston McAfee has joined CRA as Senior Consultant to the Antitrust & Competition Economics Practice. Dr. McAfee is an economist with more than 35 years of experience in academia and industry, most recently with Microsoft where he was Chief Economist and Corporate Vice President from 2014 until February 2018. His other industry positions include Director of Google Strategic Technologies from 2012 to 2014 and Chief Economist, Vice President and Research Fellow at Yahoo! Research from 2007 to 2012.

He was the J. Stanley Johnson Professor at the California Institute of Technology from 2004 to 2009 and held academic positions at the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Western Ontario, and several visiting professorships in the U.S. and abroad.

He has served as a consultant to government organizations including the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, and the Federal Communications Commission.

Dr. McAfee has published numerous scholarly articles and contributed to many publications. He served as an Editor at Economic Inquiry, Co-editor at American Economic Review, and is Founding Co-editor of the ACM Journal Transactions on Economics and Computation. He has written three books, including Competitive Solutions: The Strategist’s Toolkit (Princeton University Press, 2003). Dr. McAfee earned MS degrees in Economics and Mathematics and a PhD in Economics from Purdue University.
